Elevator Pitch
“What if Blue Prince had existential horror instead of RNG?”
The House Dreams Along With Them is a first person puzzle adventure with an emphasis on interactivity: pick up, tap, click, throw, twist, tinker, and intuit puzzle solutions while dreaming in the different rooms of a strange house.
The game taps into the uneasy feeling of being somewhere that you’re not supposed to be. Fears of isolation, home invasion, darkness, drowning, megalophobia, claustrophobia, spiders, imprisonment, dissociative fugue states, and existential ennui become more prominent as the player delves deeper into the house’s mysteries, with each discovery heading towards the enigmatic “reification of night”.
The House Dreams Along With Them tells a tale of sublime cosmic horror with themes of recursion, metafiction, reality and dreams, identity, and empathy for things that appear monstrous.
Control Breathing and Blinking
The House Dreams Along With Them lets players manually control their breathing and blinking in-game.
Hold your breath at any time at the cost of rising panic
Hyperventilate to wake yourself up from a dream
Manually close your eyes to squint at an object or close them completely if you prefer not seeing what is in front of you
Dreams Become Reality
In the house are many empty rooms. Dreaming inside these rooms leads to a self-contained lucid dream of what the room once was and could be again. Solving the puzzle makes the dream real in the house in a process called reification.
Sleep on special rusted objects to enter a dream of that room
Solving the lucid dream makes the dream real in the house
Each successfully reified room advances the in-game time one hour closer to nightfall
The Deduction System: Hints for All Skill Levels
As the player explores the house and the lucid dreams within, they will automatically record observations, intuitions, and pieces of knowledge.
Observations of the environment are reminders of what the player has seen
Intuitions are hints that are initially blurred out so players can choose when to read them
Deduction system allows players of all puzzle skill levels to make progress
Tactile and Interactive Environment
Player curiosity is encouraged as almost everything in the house can be interacted with, clicked on, tapped, twisted, thrown, exploded, or picked up. Each time a new room is dreamed into the house, new interactive elements are introduced.
Play an upright piano or program a drum machine
Set the clock or tune the radio
Light the fireplace and throw something into it!
Foreboding Atmosphere with Guest Musician
Exploration is punctuated by atmospheric drones, industrial hums, and dark ambient music tracks inspired by the works of Akira Yamaoka (composer for Silent Hill). Two pieces of music in the game's soundtrack are contributed by KIRA, the creator of the indie horror adventure game, Lost In Vivo.
Dark ambient soundscapes complement each dream realm
Jaunty jingles, trip hop, and pulsing electronica heighten special moments
Additional music provided by guest musician KIRA
Deep Lore in a Shared Universe
The truth of what is happening in the mysterious house is a plot told obliquely through hints scattered throughout the game. The story is tied into the Caranthos Mori continuity, a shared universe that includes the video game The Logomancer, and the novel The Aspect of Separation.
The plot of the game is delivered through scattered messages
Expansive lore for player curious enough to draw deeper connections
